Holding my breath, Feeling it fail.

Chapter 1

I took a deep breath as I heard his heavy footsteps approaching me. “Hiya love, give us a kiss!” he slurred, I imagined that he was drunk although you could never be sure, his face inches from mine and getting closer. I backed away as far as I could which wasn’t much considering I was tied to a chair. “I SAID KISS ME!” he shouted before taking another drag of his cigarette. I didn’t reply. He moved his hand towards my neck I gritted my teeth and my eyes were shut tightly, he was about to put the cigarette out on my skin when we were disturbed by a knock on the door. I let out a sigh of relief. “Don’t make a noise!” he warned even though I knew by now and I had learnt from my mistakes. Last time someone had come round I screamed in hope for help but it just turned out to be one of his mates and that made things much worse… I quivered at the thought of the memory.
“Hey, we’re new round here and I’m sorry too disturb you but my flatmate left the milk out AGAIN! but anyway I was just wondering if we could borrow some.” I heard through the door, that voice sounded so familiar, like one from a dream or a distant memory.  Barry walked off into the kitchen to fetch some milk. Now was my chance, I had nothing to lose, if he killed me at least I’d be able to leave this hell hole I called life. I used all my strength to drag the chair across the room and towards the door which was slightly open due to the fact that Barry had forgotten to close it. I kicked the door open so I could now see who was at the door. I felt a tear drift down my cheek, of course I remember him how could I forget? His lopsided smile and his mesmerising eyes. “J- Jay” I called, barely a whisper. “Jay” I whimpered. “Jay!” I cried. This time I caught his attention, at first his eyes were filled with confusion, as if he didn’t recognise me. He furrowed his brows but then almost immediately after I saw a tear roll down his cheek and he ran towards me. He untied me from the chair when we were disturbed by the man I hated more than anything. “Sorry, mate we don’t have any milk” he said walking towards the door to find that the door was left open but there was no one there. “Some people have no manners!” he smirked approaching me to find that Jay was holding my fragile body in his arms. He gave me a death stare before darting towards the door about to escape.

Jay kissed my forehead “I’ll be back in a minute little sis.” he whispered to me. He pulled Barry back and punched him across the face. Jay reached into his pockets and chucked me his phone. “Call the police” he instructed holding Barry back. I dialled the number obediently but when the police asked for the address I didn’t know what to say. Jay removed the phone from my hand and done the rest of the talking whilst keeping an eye on the man I hated.
“Ey, what’s taking you so long Bird?” I heard an unfamiliar Bolton accent call from across the hallway. He walked into the apartment unaware of what was going on. He had black hair and the most beautiful eyes, there was something I found so attractive about his accent. “Who do we have ‘ere?” he questioned in a flirting manner, I felt my cheeks flush red. “My sister so don’t mess around with her!” Jay warned. He laughed; he had the most adorable and infectious laugh! but then he stopped in realisation and his look turned serious.  ”Hannah this is Tom my band mate.” Jay said. Wait, band mate, Jay was in a band, my big brother! I felt so proud of him! And from what I’ve seen his band mates were rather fit too ;).

CHAPTER 2
All of a sudden I got into realisation of what was actually going on. Barry darted out the door. Jay shot up ready to chase after him. “Leave him Jay, you’ve got me now haven’t you? Isn’t that enough?” I knew what he was capable of and I didn’t want to lose my brother, I had just got him back. “I’m sorry, it’s just… people like him don’t deserve to live!” Jay said with a face full of anger, but his expression changed soon after as I caught sight if the tears falling from his eyes. He put his hand against my cheek and lightly kissed me. “I can’t believe you’re here. I thought you were… Never mind, all that matters is I’ve got my beautiful sister now.” He smiled and pulled me into a hug. I winced in pain. “What has he done to you?”
“Come on, we better get ‘er to the doctors.” Tom said remaining calm but I could sense some hurt in his eyes as they met mine.
“What about the police? You’ve called them and they’re gonna arrive here soon.”
“Right Tom, you stay here to talk to the police and I’ll go get her checked up.”
Tom nodded in agreement.
“He won’t know what to say.” I reminded Jay. The truth is, I didn’t want Jay to come to the hospital with me, don’t get me wrong I missed my brother and I wanted to spend every moment possible with him, but I knew that the results would be dissapointing and I hate to see Jay crying, especially over me.
“I don’t want to leave you” Jay said. I felt guilt rush through me but I knew why I was doing this.
“You can trust Tom, he’ll keep me safe.” I replied, with no sense of emotion in my voice.
It was also strange how I trusted Tom, I haven’t spoken to him yet and I only know his first name but he’s friends with Jay so he must be decent.

CHAPTER 3

I stepped into the cab with Tom as we drove off to the hospital. “So, what’s your name?” I asked. It was strange having a conversation with someone without the fear. “Thomas Parker” he answered. I like the sound of Hannah Parker. I adored his accent, Bolton. I realised that we were sitting in silence. “So…you’re in a band?”
“Yeah.” Tom smiled, he had the most adorable smile, you could tell he was proud. “We’re called The Wanted, there’s obviously me and Jay and there’s three other lads too.”
“Oh, what are they like?”
“Well, there’s Max, he’s a legend but he tells the worst jokes! Siva, he looks like he’s been chiselled out of stone or summat and he’s probably more feminine then you! And then there’s baby Nath, he acts all innocent but trust me he ain’t!” he laughed. His laugh was so infectious I couldn’t help but join in. It hurt to laugh but I didn’t care, it was worth it just to hear him laugh a few seconds longer.
“They sound great, can’t wait to meet them. So, can I hear your music?”
“Oh, yeah sure!” Tom got out his ipod and played me some of their music. I’ll just say it plainly, I fangirled. Especially when I heard Jay singing!
“I can’t believe he got this far, my brother!” I thought out loud.
“Bird? Yeah, he’s amazing, the band just wouldn’t be the same without that geek!”
“Bird?” I questioned.
“Oh, that’s what we call Jay.” Tom explained.
“Why, because he’s such a girl?”
Tom laughed again, and once more I joined him.
“Seriously though, you should try tickling him, then you’ll see what I mean!”
“I’ll try that!”

We arrived outside of the hospital and I could feel the nerves. I always hated hospitals. The smell of sickness and death filled the air as we stepped inside. Tom must’ve caught sight of the look of worry on my face as he slipped his hand into mine. I took a deep breath and hoped for the best as we walked into a room to be greeted by a nurse. She had short blonde hair and looked middle aged. She was chubby but she wasn’t fat and she had a smile on her face but I wasn’t completely sure on whether she was happy. On her feet were white slippers and she wore unflattering blue scrubs.

“What’s your name?” she questioned.
“Urm, Hannah McGuiness.”
“Don’t be so nervous, we’re here to help you.”
Tom tightened his grip on my hand and smiled at me.
I nodded.
“So, what’s the problem?”
